Journal #5 True Grit (BSR)

The most important scene for me is when in some since just solidifies Mattie as just the annoying person in the background but it also shows the value of her. This scene is just after she saves LaBoeuf she shots Chaney getting her revenge on the man who killed her father but intern she falls down the into the pit with all the snakes and is bitten by one as Rooster is saving her.

I believe this has to be the most important part of the whole movie. It shows multiple meanings either right up front or in the meaning of it. One of the most obvious meanings has to do with Rooster. Through out the whole movie he is portrayed as the mean son of gun who will kill someone at the drop of a hat and doesn’t care about anyone. This scene  and the following scenes shows that he may have a heart and under everything and how annoying Mattie is he cares about her enough to save her.
One of the less obvious meanings in this scene is what happens to people who go looking for blood and vengeance. They find it but it may cause them to lose themselves. This is best portrayed when Mattie finally gets revenge for her fathers death. But in the process of doing so the kick from the gun knocks here into the pit where she gets by the snake. She has lost herself in the most obvious way she is about to give up her life just so she could get revenge.

  1. Wow this movie sounds like it would really good. I certainly wouldn't want to mess with Mattie or Rooster. It's understandable why Mattie wants revenge, but even after she gets it, she's knocked down by the gun. Maybe this is how her character develops throughtout the story like Rooster did. He changed into someone with a little more heart.
